El Clásico, the most anticipated match in football, saw Barcelona
make history with a stunning victory over Real Madrid this past Sunday.
Madrid, who needed a win to keep their LaLiga title hopes alive,
got off to a perfect start by taking a two-goal lead within the first
15 minutes, courtesy of a Kylian Mbappé brace. With a win, Madrid
could have reduced the gap at the top of the table to just one point,
but Barcelona responded in spectacular fashion.
The Catalan giants delivered an incredible 26-minute spell before
half-time, scoring four goals to take a 4-2 lead into the break after
an exhilarating first half. Mbappé completed his hat-trick in the
second half, making for a tense final 20 minutes at the Olympic
Stadium, but Barcelona held firm to essentially seal the title.
Hansi Flick's men, showing resilience after their heartbreaking
Champions League quarter-final exit to Inter Milan, are now on the
brink of completing a domestic treble.
Spanish football continues to be dominated by the fierce rivalry
between these two giants, and Barcelona’s record against Real Madrid
this season will be remembered as one for the history books.
A Record-Breaking El Clásico Streak
Barcelona’s triumph in this season’s El Clásicos is nothing short of
historic. The team won all four encounters against Real Madrid in the
2024/25 campaign, matching a joint-record for most wins in a single
season. However, this Barcelona side has achieved something
unique—they are the first team in history to maintain a perfect 100%
win record in four or more El Clásico matches within the same season.
Back in the 1982/83 season, Barcelona also won four times, but they
faced Real Madrid five times that year, while this season's team played
Madrid only four times.
As highlighted in the graphic above, Real Madrid has never won four
El Clásicos in a single season. However, they have claimed victory
three times in a season on five occasions. The contrast between last
season, when Madrid won all three encounters, and this season’s
dominance by Barcelona shows the remarkable turnaround in the rivalry.
