In devastating news, Liverpool FC forward Diogo Jota has died in a tragic car crash in Spain, just ten days after marrying his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso. He was 28.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning near Palacios de Sanabria, on the Rías Bajas Highway (A-52) in northwestern Spain. Jota was traveling with his younger brother, Andre Felipe, 26, when their Lamborghini veered off the road and caught fire.

Spanish police confirmed the fatal crash in a statement:

> “At approximately 12:30 a.m., a vehicle left the road. Early indications suggest a tire burst while overtaking. The vehicle subsequently caught fire. Both occupants were declared dead at the scene. One of the deceased has been identified as Liverpool FC player Diogo Jota.”
